01 Overview

Loci is a personal memory assistant. You forward messages to it — over WhatsApp or SMS — and it remembers what you've told it so you can ask about it later. This policy explains what information we collect when you use Loci, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Loci is operated by Loci LLC, a California limited liability company, as an early-stage service. If you have any questions, see Contact us below.

02 Information we collect

When you message Loci, we collect:

  • Your phone number, as the sender of the message.
  • The content of your messages — text, and any photos, voice notes, or other files you send.
  • Timestamps for when messages are sent and received.

We only collect what you actively send to Loci. We do not access your contacts, your other messages, or anything else on your device.

03 How we use it

We use what you send to:

  • Build and maintain a personal memory profile — facts, plans, and context you've shared — so Loci can answer questions about them later.
  • Generate replies to your messages, including deciding whether a message is something worth remembering or just a question.
  • Improve the reliability and quality of the service.

We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell it to anyone.

04 How we store it

Your information is stored in a private, access-controlled database that is not publicly accessible. As Loci grows from an early-stage service into a broader product, we are continuing to invest in the technical safeguards protecting your data.

05 Sharing with service providers

To operate Loci, your messages pass through a small number of service providers acting on our behalf:

  • WhatsApp (Meta Platforms, Inc.) — the messaging platform used to deliver messages between you and Loci; Meta processes message metadata, such as your phone number and delivery status, as part of operating WhatsApp.
  • Twilio — our messaging service provider, which connects Loci to WhatsApp and SMS.
  • Anthropic — processes message content to understand and respond to what you send.
  • Mailgun — our email service provider, which delivers and receives messages sent to and from Loci over email.
  • OpenAI — transcribes voice notes you send so Loci can understand what they say.
  • Google — looks up publicly available details (like address and hours) for places you mention, using the place's name as a search query; and, only if you connect your Google Calendar (see the next section), accesses your calendar according to the access level you choose.

These providers handle your information under their own privacy and security commitments, and only as necessary to provide the service to you. We do not share your information with any other third party, and we never sell it.

If you ask us to delete your information, we remove it from our own systems — but these providers may independently retain their own records (for example, delivery or processing logs) under their own retention policies, which we don't control.

No mobile information — including your phone number and your consent to receive messages — will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. This applies regardless of what else this policy says about service providers above: text-messaging opt-in data and consent are excluded from any sharing, full stop.

06 Google Calendar

Connecting your Google Calendar is entirely optional, set up from Settings, and never required to use Loci. You choose exactly how much access to grant — free/busy only, full read, or create & edit — and Loci never requests more than that choice allows. Once connected, Loci can answer calendar questions and, at the create & edit level, create or modify events on your behalf, always with your confirmation before anything is written.

Nothing Loci reads from your calendar is ever stored — a calendar lookup is a live request made only to answer the question you asked in that moment, the same as asking a person to check a calendar and tell you what's on it. The one exception: if Loci creates an event on your behalf, it keeps a lightweight record of that event's Google-assigned ID (not the event's content) so it can look the event back up later.

You can disconnect Google Calendar at any time from Settings. Disconnecting revokes Loci's access at Google and deletes the stored connection — it does not merely turn it off.

Loci's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

08 Retention and deletion

We retain your information for as long as your account is active, so Loci can continue to answer questions about things you've shared in the past. If you'd like your data deleted, contact us (see below) and we will remove it.

09 Your choices

You can ask us, at any time, to:

  • Tell you what information we have about you.
  • Correct information that's inaccurate.
  • Delete your information entirely.

You can also stop using Loci at any time by simply no longer messaging it, or by replying STOP to opt out of SMS messages.

10 Children's privacy

Loci is not directed at, or intended for use by, anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

11 Changes to this policy

As Loci develops, this policy may be updated. The effective date at the top of this page will always reflect the latest version.
